   1      can           ranch style beans*
   2      tablespoons   cilantro -- (I omitted)
   1      can           Ro-tel tomatoes -- to 2 cans
   1      can           cream corn

*I couldn't find this so I used spicy chili beans instead Brown the beef and drain well. Put in the crockpot. Add the remaining ingredients. Mix well. Simmer all day, (I set the pot at med. heat and simmered for about 4 hours).

   1      ounce         Unsweetened chocolate
     1/4  cup           Molasses
     1/4  cup           Tomato sauce
   1      quart         orange juice Salt & pepper to taste -- (or more)
   3      tablespoons   Oil

Brown stew meat in oil. When meat is lightly browned add curry and continue browning. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Simmer about 1 hour, continuing to add juice (water or orange juice) as needed. A pressure cooker or crock pot can be used to hasten cooking. Serve with rice and mixed vegetables or chutney.

     1/2  cup           flour
     1/4  cup           butter
   1                    onion -- sliced
   1      teaspoon      salt

   1      clove         garlic -- minced
   2      cups          beer
     1/4  cup           flour

Coat beef cubes with the 1/2 cup flour. Brown in melted butter. Drain off excess fat. In crock pot, combine browned meat with onion, salt, pepper, garlic and beer. Cover and cook on low 5-7 hours (all day) until meat is tender. Turn control to high. Dissolve remaining 1/4 cup flour in small amount of water. Stir into meat mixture, cook on high 30-40 minutes. Serve with rice and salad.

   2                    Celery stalks -- diced
   1                    Green bell pepper -- chopped
   1                    Yellow onion
     1/2  cup           Water
     1/2  cup           Tomato juice

  Recipe by: Jo Anne Merrill Preparation Time: 8:00 * Use any cut of beef   roast desired.

       1. Cut beef roast into serving-sized portions. Use more beef if you   need more than 6 servings. Brown beef in a bit of vegetable oil, although   you can skip this step if rushed for time.        2. Slice onion and separate into rings. Dice the peeled carrots, dice   the celery and slice the peppers into thin strips or circles. Place these   into bottom of crockpot. Sprinkle the beef pieces with fresh ground black   pepper, minced garlic and the onion soup mix. Place on top of the   vegetables.        3. Mix the steak sauce and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl with   about 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup tomato juice. Pour this over the meat.        4. Turn the crockpot to high for 30 minutes, or, if you're in a hurry,   skip this step. Turn to low, cover and cook for 7-9 hours.

  * Keep the crockpot covered as much as possible throughout cooking time. A   crockpot can be used to cook this type of meal for a varied amount of time,   depending on your schedule. It is not important that you take the meat and   vegetables out at a specific amount of time. One or two hours either way   usually makes no difference.

       When ready to serve, dip meat and vegetables out of pot with a slotted   spoon. Use the liquid as is or turn crockpot to high and thicken liquid   with a little flour or cornstarch.

1 10 3/4  ounces        alphabet vegetable soup -- undiluted
     1/2  cup           dry red wine
     1/8  teaspoon      dried basil
   2      tablespoons   parsley -- finely chopped

Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. Place in slow-cooking pot. In small mixing bowl, combine undiluted soup with wine and basil. Pour over meat. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Sprinkle with parsley. Slice meat; serve with sauce ladled over meat. (Sauce may be thickened with flour dissolved in a small amount of water, if desired. )

     1/4  cup           Flour
   2      teaspoons     Salt
     1/8  teaspoon      Pepper

   2      small         Onions -- sliced
   1      stalk         Celery -- cut in 2" pieces
   2      ounces        Mushrooms -- canned, drained
                        -- GRAVY --
   3      tablespoons   Flour
     1/4  cup           Water

Trim excess fat from roast.  Brown roast on all sides.  Combine flour with salt and pepper.  Coat meat with flour mixture.  Place all vegetables except mushrooms in crock pot.  Put roast on top. Arrange mushrooms on top of roast.   Cover and cook on low (3 1/2) for 7 to 10 hours.  Transfer roast and vegetables to a heated platter.  Turn crock pot to high.  Blend flour and water.  Stir into crock pot and cook until thickened, stirring often. Correct seasonings and serve with roast.

     1/2  cup           brown sugar -- packed
     1/4  cup           cider vinegar
   3      teaspoons     worcestershire souce
   1      teaspoon      dry mustard

  Combine the ingredients and put into a slow cooker or crockpot in   order given.  Use a 3 1/2 - 5 quart cooker.  Cover and cook on high   for 8 hours.

  With a wire whisk, stir mixture until meat is shredded.  Serve on long   hard rolls or hamberger buns.

In a crockpot, combine all ingredients except the buns.   Cook on low setting for 8-10 hours or til meat if tender. Stir with fork to break up pieces. Serve on buns.

*May use all pork or all beef. I found that the pork will cook faster than the beef, so I start the beef ahead of time then add  the pork.

Combine all ingredients except brisket in removable liner. Add brisket and turn to coat well with barbecue sauce. Marinate 3 to 4 hours, or overnight in refrigerator. Place liner in base. Cover and cook on auto for 8 hours; or low for 9-11 hours; or hiogh for 5-6 hours.

Place seasoned cut up chicken, ham, pork chops or rabbit in the crockpot.  Pour a little of your favorite barbecue sauce over each piece.  Add no water.  Cover and cook until done...about 8 hours on low setting.  When done, put cooked meat on a heat-proof platter and pour sauce and drippings over top.  Place under the broiler for 5 minutes or so, until glaze is browned.

Brown meat in heavy skillet. Put onion and pepper in bottom of the crockpot, placing the roast on top of vegs., and then pour the sauce over meat. When doing short ribs, I layer the meat and veggies, then pour in the sauce. ADD NO ADDITIONAL LIQUID! Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours (HIGH for 4 - 5 hours). When meat is done, remove from pot with spatula & place on a broiler pan. Pour some of the juices and sauce over meat and place under broiler for 5-10 min., turning once. You can allow the juices to thicken in the pot to serve with the meat. You can also use that recipe for Spareribs, using 2 cups of BBQ sauce for 3 to 4 pounds of spareribs.

Remove the roast and apples to a warm platter when fully cooked. Turn the crock-pot to High setting. Make a smooth paste with the flour and water and stir the paste into the crock-pot. Cover and cook until thickened. Pour gravy over roast when serving. Makes about 6 to 8 good sized servings.

Place roast in large bowl or bag with marinade. Cover and chill 1 day. NOTE: Will turn a purpil color.

Remove from marinade. Pat dry with paper towels. Brown on all sides.

Place in crockpot. Strain marinade reserving vegetables. Add marinade to meat. Saute vegetables until glazed and add to meat. Loosen pan drippings with a little water and add to pot along with bouillon and tomato sauce.

Cover and cook on low 8 hours or until tender.

Cut the steak into serving size pieces.  If desired you can brown the meat in a little hot oil before adding to crockpot.  Place the thinly sliced pepper rings in bottom of crockpot, reserving a few to place on top of meat if desired. (Vegetables cook better when placed on bottom of pot.)  Arrange the meat on pepper, careful to not stack one piece directly on top of another.  Mix all other ingredients and pour over meat and peppers.  Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for about 4 hours.  Serve with mashed potatoes and simply seasoned vegetables.

Mix ground beef and sausage meat in a bowl; shape into 2 large patties.  Brown one at a time, 5 minutes on each side in a large  kettle or 5 quart electric slow cooker.  Remove and reserve.  Pour off  all but 2 tablespoonsful of the drippings.  Add onions and garlic, saute just until soft.  Stir in celery and green  pepper; continue cooking just until celery is soft, then stir in chili  powder; cook 2 minutes longer.  Combine meat, broken into chunks and  sauteed vegetables in the slow cooker.  Stir in catsup, brown sugar,  mustard, salt, paprika, pepper, water, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce; stir until well-blended; cover.  Cook on low for 8 hours, stirring  after 4 hours if possible or on high for 4 hours, stirring after 2 hours.  Spoon over your choice of hot corn bread squares, rice, toast or tamales.

Thoroughly combine first 7 ingredients; add beef and marinate at least 3 hours at room temperature, or overnight in refrigerator. Drain meat reserving 1 cup of marinade. Place meat in removable liner; sprinkle with flour and salt and toss to coat meat. Fry bacon; fry onions in bacon fat until slightly brown, add garlic and fry for 30 seconds; remove onions, garlic and bacon with slotted spoon and add to meat in liner. Saute mushrooms in remaining bacon fat (add butter if needed). Remove mushrooms with slotted spoon and add to meat-onion mixture. Pour reserved 1 cup of marinade over all. Place liner in base. Cover and cook on auto 6-7 hours; or low 8-10 hours; or high 4-5 hours.

Trim fat from roast.  Cut to fit crockpot. Put meat in, cover with onions, bay leaf.  Combine beer, chili sauce, sugar, thyme, salt, pepper, and garlic; pour over meat.  Cover and cook on low for 10-12 hours or high for 5-6 hours.  Transfer meat to platter and keep warm.  Discard bay leaf.  Skim fat from cooking juices.  Measure 2 1/2 cup juices and place in a saucepan.  Combine cornstarch and water; add to saucepan.  Cook and stir till thick and bubbly.  Cook for 2 min. more.   Pass with meat.

Add mushrooms; cook on high 15 minutes. To thicken sauce, if desired, add cornstarch (dissolved in 2 tbs. cold water) with mushrooms.

Cut the onions into thin slices and cook in the oil until soft and golden.  Slice the carrots thinly and put into the crockpot.  Top with the onions and the meat.  Add any remaining flour to the fat in the pan and cook for 2 minutes.  Work in the stock and stir over low heat until the liquid comes to the boil.  Pour into the crockpot, cover and cook on HIGH for 30 minutes, then on LOW 6-7 hours.

Cook on LOW 8 hours. Turn to HIGH. Mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon cold water. When pan juices are bubbling, stir in cornstarch paste. Cook, stirring until thickened. Garnish with parsley. No particular measurements are needed. You judge according to the size of your roast pan or Dutch oven pot. You make as much or as little as you desire. Of course the less you make, you must roast for less time.

1 layer of stew beef cubes to cover bottom of pan

1 layer of carrots (sliced) to cover beef cubes. (Fresh taste much better. But you can use frozen(thawed) or canned if in a hurry)

1 layer of potatoes, peeled and sliced, to cover carrots (fresh or frozen and thawed)

1 layer of cut green beans (frozen or fresh)

1 can of Cream of Mushroom soup with roasted garlic (do not add water) (I'm glad you can now buy this soup - I used to crush the garlic myself and add it - this is much easier.)

1 can of Tomato Bisque soup (do not add water)

1 soup can of water

DO NOT STIR. Just spread soups over last layer of veggies and dump in the water. Cover and bake at 300 degrees for 3 hours. Stir when done. My kids used to like to dip buttered fresh bread in the "gravy" of this stew. A few people accuse me of adding "Dinty Moore" to get the consistency. But I don't.

You can also do this in the crock pot at low setting in the morning and enjoy a good "home cooked" meal when you come home at the end of the day. Just put the beef cubes on top instead of on the bottom. And use 1/2 can of water because the crock pot tends to make more "juice."

Try it you'll like it.

Peel the onions, cut in half from root to stem, then slice and separate into rings. Peel and chunk carrots and potatoes. Place half of veggies in the pot, add beef cubes. Mix flour, pepper and spices and sprinkle over beef. Add rest of veggies and top with the stewed tomatoes and their juice. Sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce. Cover and cook on LOW 8 to 10 hours, or until meat is very tender and veggies are done. If desired, potatoes may be omitted and the stew, when done, may be served with large macaroni cooked separately. Leftovers can be refrigerated all in the same pot and reheated in bowls in the microwave at 50% power.

Combine flour with salt and pepper; toss to coat beef cubes.  Set excess flour aside.   Brown meat on all sides with oil in a skillet.  Put meat in a crockpot.  Add bay leaf and vegetables.  Combine bouillon cubes, Kitchen Bouquet, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, paprika (if used) and water; mix well.  Pour over vegetables.  Cook on low for 12 to 14 hours; or on high for 6 to 8 hours.  One hour before serving, find and remove bay leaf; make a paste of the flour and water.  Add to mixture and stir gently until thickened.

   1 1/2  cups          Sour cream
     1/2  cup           Quick-mixing flour -- such as
                        -Wondra

  1.  Cut the beef into thin slices across the grain.  PLace in a   4-quart electric slow cooker.  Add the mushrooms, scallions, onion,   thyme, sherry, broth, dry mustard, and garlic pepper.  Mix well.

  2.  Cover and cook on the low heat setting about 8 hours, or until   the beef is tender, stirring once, if possible.  Increase the heat   setting to high.

  3.  Mix together the sour cream and flour until thoroughly blended.   Stir a little of the hot liquid from the slow cooker into the sour   cream mixture; then stir the sour cream mixture into the slow cooker,   mixing well. Cover and cook on high 30 to 40 minutes, or until   thickened slightly.

   3      pounds        beef round steak -- 1/2 inch thick
     1/2  cup           flour
   2      teaspoons     salt
     1/8  teaspoon      pepper
     1/2  teaspoon      dry mustard
   2      medium        onions -- thinly sliced &
                        -- separated in rings
   2      cans          sliced mushrooms or -- drained (4 oz.
                        -- each)
     1/2  pound         mushrooms -- sliced
   1      can           condensed beef broth  -- (10 1/2 oz.)
     1/4  cup           dry white wine -- (optional)
   1 1/2  cups          sour cream
     1/4  cup           flour

Trim all excess fat from steak and cut meat into 3 inch strips about 1/2 inch wide. Combine 1/2 cup flour, the salt, pepper and dry mustard; toss with steak strips to coat thoroughly. Place coated steak strips in crock pot; stir in onion rings and mushrooms. Add beef broth and wine; stir well. Cover and cook on low setting for 8-10 hours. Before serving, combine sour cream with 1/4 cup flour; stir into crock pot. Serve stroganoff over rice or noodles.

   1      small         garlic clove -- crushed

   8      ounces        sliced mushrooms
   1      medium        onion -- chopped
   3      tablespoons   flour
   1      cup           sour cream
   3      cups          hot cooked noodles -- (up to 4)

Dredge beef in flour and salt. Melt butter or margarine in large skillet and add beef and onion. Cook over medium heat until browned. Place beef bouillon, ketchup, garlic and mushrooms in crock pot and mix. Add cooked beef and onions. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours. Add sour cream, cover and cook for 30-45 minutes (do not let mixture boil). Serve over hot cooked noodles.

   2      pounds        lean ground beef
   2      medium        onions -- finely chopped
   2      tablespoons   chili powder
   1      teaspoon      leaf oregano
   1      teaspoon      paprika
   2      teaspoons     salt
     1/3  cup           taco sauce
   1      tablespoon    Worcestershire sauce
   1      can           pinto beans or green peas -- drained and pureed
                        taco shells
                        shredded lettuce -- for accompaniment
                        diced avocado or guacamole -- for accompaniment
                        diced tomato -- for accompaniment
                        shredded cheddar cheese -- for accompaniment
                        sour cream -- for accompaniment

In large skillet, brown ground beef and onions; drain well.  Place beef and onions in crock pot.  Stir in remaining ingredients except taco shells and items for accompaniment.  Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10  hours. Taste for seasoning.  Fill taco shells with 2 tablespoons meat mixture, add shredded lettuce, guacamole, tomato, shredded cheese, top with a dollop of sour cream.
